Many times this happens, due to compatibility problems when installing some operating system processes, giving as error the installation failure. Best Regards. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to AnthonyBurns03’s post on October 10, I’ve been trying to install across 2 different systems as well. I’m trying to install windows on my older system which was running perfectly fine until after i attempted to boot up the m.
Now i just purchased a brand new hard drive just to rule out hard drive failure and i’m getting the same issue. I’ve removed the ram and reset the cmos on the motherboard as my older gigabyte doesn’t seem to have a battery.
I’ve entered the bios and attempted to start the installation from the hard drive again and same thing has happened. Also i’ve unplugged and removed all other drives.
Still nothing. After the intial windows installation the CPU resets then turns on. Considering this, the following sections discuss the problem in detail and explain how to get rid of it.
One of the sections also teaches you how to recover lost data from an unbootable hard drive, in case none of the given solutions work. Every time a Windows update is installed, it automatically detects the device drivers and other system files, and updates them as well. Repeat this process one more time, and you will notice that Windows enters the automatic repair mode where it checks the system and other important files and fixes their inconsistencies, thus allowing the operating system to boot normally.
In some cases, it is also seen that the operating system does boot successfully but keeps crashing quite frequently. To learn how to resolve this or the issue where Windows fails to boot at all, you can jump to the next section.
Apart from the quick remedy explained in the previous section, there are two other ways to fix the problem. Both the solutions are explained below:. Start the computer, and when you see the Windows logo, long-press the Power button and restart the PC. Repeat this process until Windows enters the automatic repair mode.
When automatic repair fails and the next screen appears, click Advanced options. On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot , and then click Advanced options on the Troubleshoot screen.
On the Advanced options window, click Uninstall Updates , and click Uninstall latest quality update or Uninstall latest feature update from the Uninstall Updates window. On the next screen, click to select the account that you want to use for uninstallation, enter the password when prompted, and click Continue. Note: Make sure that the account that you select has administrator privileges. Once the uninstallation is complete, click Done. Back on the Choose an option screen, click Continue to reboot Windows 10 normally.
Use the method explained earlier to get to the Choose an option window, and then click Troubleshoot to go to the Troubleshoot screen. Click Reset this PC. On the next window, either click Keep my files or Remove everything to reset Windows 10 without deleting your personal files and data, or erase all your files during the process respectively. When the next window comes up, either click Cloud download or Local reinstall to download and install the fresh files from the Cloud or to use the local files for Windows reinstallation.
From this point onward, you can follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows 10 while keeping or erasing your personal files according to the option that you selected earlier.
After the reinstallation is complete, you can safely reboot your computer to the fresh copy of Windows A couple of tips that may help in this context are given below:. Windows 10 has the default configuration of automatically updating the device drivers as soon as they are released by their corresponding vendors.
It is advisable NOT to disable this feature.
One of my Windows 10 desktops died the other day – I think during an update. I’ve run into a BSOD on and off with no clear resolution to be found. I suspect it happened during an update and killed it mid-process. I’ve recovered some of the files and can see what appear to be healthy partitions. The computer restarts part way through. I’ve tried booting from a Win 10 DVD and running repair tools. I’ve tried restoring to recent system restore points.
I’ve tried resetting the PC. All of them get part way through, then the system restarts. I’ve used Paragon Disk Manager v16 Advanced to view the partitions, do a surface scan, and run chkdsk. They show no problems with the drive. All complete successfully using the Paragon software, but it still won’t boot up.
There are two recovery partitions, two system reserved partitions and the actual OS partition. I’ve tried Paragon’s boot repair software, which supposedly completes successfully, but it still won’t boot.
The most frustrating part came tonight when I tried to do a clean install of Windows and it told me that Windows couldn’t be installed on ANY of the partitions.
Worse yet: I have no license key because this was the free Win 10 upgrade from 8. If I reformat the hard drive, my license info goes away with it.
How do I get my license key, wipe the drive and cut my losses by starting over? Aside from that nuclear option, is there anything else I can try? This issue that started during the update might be caused by corrupted system files. Meanwhile, when you upgrade from Windows 8. You can proceed on reinstalling Windows 10 because it will automatically reactivate. For your reference, check this thread on how to reinstall Windows We recommend that you follow the steps under this section: RE : how can one re-install windows 10 after the free upgrade?
Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn’t help. I tried using Win 10 boot media to reinstall from scratch. Install chugs away for a while then shows me a list of partitions on my hard drive.
That seemed to run without any problems, but when I restarted I eventually got a blue screen with error 0xCa.
At this point it’s looking like I need to completely reformat the disk and reinstall Windows from the boot media. Is that the next step? I’ve recovered my data – which is all still accessible. Since you’ve already recovered your data, you may now perform a clean installation of Windows 10 as a next step.
