In reply to Reza Ameri’s post on September 21, Vijay A. Verma Volunteer Moderator. Hi soler I am Vijay, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this problem.

If yes, come out of this and start normally. I spent the rest of the day using my computer as normal. The next day, I got a notification saying that even more updates were ready to install. I also happened to not be doing much on my computer, so I let it restart and install updates once again. The same exact events occurred. Reboot, Razer Synapse, black screen, hard reset, recovering, updating, frozen, hard reset, and then the restoring my previous version of Windows.

It all happened again. That was all yesterday. Today, the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant popped up that didn’t happen the last two times telling me I should install updates.

I was going to cancel it, but I thought that this would be different since this window didn’t show up before. I went ahead and installed them, and you’ll never guess what happened next: the same stuff from the past two attempts to update happened. All the way up to the first black screen, since I’ll actually follow the “Don’t turn off your PC” rule that shows up on every update.

So far, it’s been sitting at this black screen for almost 2 hours. The cursor still doesn’t move. The keyboard still does not work. The monitors ARE still receiving video; it’s still the same black screen with the same unmovable cursor. The CPU fan still runs at its fastest speed. I’ve had Windows updates turned off for over a year, but turning them back on with hope that it would improve my computer proved to me that even more stupid stuff is bound to happen with them.

I’ve been considering doing a full reinstall on my computer, but I want to know if there’s anything I can do to fix this. The last thing I want happening to me is updates that cannot be postponed that end with me going through this entire time-consuming process to find that nothing was updated, since it just restores the previous version every single time. Update : After waiting two more hours, I did a hard reset.

Seems like nothing has changed. A corruption or incomplete installation may be the possible reasons why you experience black screen during installation of the update. Right now I’m going to try and unplug most of the things from my computer and disable startup programs. I don’t want to try and manually uninstall device drivers because I don’t really know which ones I’m not supposed to uninstall. After doing all that, I will try to update my computer one last time.
